Bambang Pamungkas (born in Salatiga, Central Java, on June 10, 1980) is an Indonesian footballer. Currently he plays for Inter's Main Division League Jakarta in Indonesia and never represent the country in the Indonesian national team football. He usually plays as a striker.

Although not very high (171 cm), Bambang has a jump that high and accurate header. One player who admires is his partner in the national team, Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto.

While still playing in the youth team of Central Java, he was crowned as the best player Haornas Cup, a championship level of teenagers. Bambang was also the top scorer for the squad Indonesia in the Asian Cup U-19 Group V, with 7 goals.

Bambang's first appearance with the senior national team is on July 2, 1999 in a friendly against Lithuania. Bambang, who was then 18 years old, managed to create a goal in a match which ended in a draw 2-2.

Professional career

Bambang scored 24 goals in his first season in Liga Indonesia even though it represents Persija Jakarta team failed to round the end. When the season ended, Bambang joined with a Dutch team third division, EHC Norad. However, family problems and failure to adjust to the cool weather of Europe led to a few months after that, EHC Norad lend Bambang return to Liverpool before both parties terminate the contract upon mutual consent.

A year later, Bambang became top scorer with 8 goals while helping Indonesia become the second champion Tiger Cup 2002.

Until his last appearance for Indonesia at the 2006 World Cup qualifier against Sri Lanka in September 2004, Bambang has netted 18 goals in 35 appearances. However, injury problems and declining performance (the last time Bambang scored a goal for Indonesia is on February 12, 2004) caused squad eliminated from Indonesia Tiger Cup 2004. When his comrades fighting in the Tiger Cup, Bambang signed a contract with the Selangor FC. Until July 2005, he was the leading scorer for his team with 22 goals.

2007 season he returned to strengthen Persija Jakarta in Indonesian League.

On July 10, 2007, when Indonesia-Bahrain match, he scored a goal, make sure Indonesia won 2-1.
